ROGER WILLIAMS STATEMENT ON ORDER FROM THREE-JUDGE PANEL ON REDISTRICTING: "No More Compromise"
Arlington--Former Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams issued the following statement following the order from the San Antonio court that negotiations on the state's congressional map adhere to the Supreme Court's ruling that a minority-coalition district cannot be drawn in North Texas:
"The Supreme Court has said it and now the three judges in San Antonio have said it: the congressional map in North Texas should look like the one drawn by the legislature. My message to Republican negotiators is simple: there should be no more compromise. Let's fight for the congressional map that the elected officials in the legislature drew for us. Let's quit negotiating against ourselves. The voters of North Texas deserve the district that the legislature drew."
